ICNZ MMA 2011
In a year of trials and tribulations, ICNZ has continued to try and bring you the very best of NZ MMA. Now as we near the years end it’s time to look back at some of the highlights of 2011
Industry of Combat events
Industry of Combat Officials displayed great control at North Island MMA scene this year, continuing to work with, and provide service to, Submission MMA events, Shuriken NZ, Princesses Of Pain and ECBJJ’s “The Cage” fight nights.
The ICNZ team got an early Christmas present back in August when our very own custom made Octagonal fighting cage arrived in the country. With that we also got a chance to make some new friends who went onto become the official ICNZ Cage Crew. A team we greatly appreciate and couldn’t do without.
Contender Series continued to grow, as the no-gi grappling craze showed no signs of slowing down. Great numbers and some top quality competition were on the floor at North Shore Events Centre for Series 3 and 4.
Our official’s roster continued to expand with more seminars, new attendees and more opportunities being afforded to us by our fellow promoters.
On March 5 – ICNZ 13 brought you a thirteen fight card, with some top quality matches taking place. Brandon Ropati took on Richie Cooper in an explosive match, and the main event saw Gareth Burke defeated in a display of two great warriors by Cole Davids.
June 24th was the next event. At ICNZ 14. Twelve fights took place. After a week of cancelled flights and last minute itinerary changes our two top billed fighters arrived from Australia. Luke Hume took on Doug Higgins and Deney Hayward went to war with top Australian female Fiona Muxlow. The event also saw two ICNZ regulars meet inside the cage Andrew Craven showing devastating form to take out Adam Calver in the fighter of the night match.
One week later the team was back at the home of ICNZ, the Auckland Boxing Association for our first ever Grassroots brought together a ten fight card of first and second time fighters. These guys and girls really showed off the climbing standard of NZ MMA at every level and the crowd got to their feet to support. We saw first timers Jaeden and Caige from Oliver MMA enter our ring for the first time winning everyones hearts. Here is a link to their fight.

Back at the North Shore for ICNZ 15 on September 3rd and it turned out to be a night of the Light Heavyweights. Nick Daly took the win over Robbie Farquhar for the vacant ICNZ Pro LHW title. Brandon Ropati faced off against American Pro Devon Schwan for the ICNZ International Pro Superfight and a devastating knee from Brandon early followed up with a strong ground and pound attack gave the win to the kiwi representative.
