ICNZ Officials – Judges and Refs
ICNZ MMA believes in legitimizing the sport of Mixed Martial Arts in NZ.
One of the pioneering movements has been the education and certification of ICNZ fight officials.
Officials play a major role in fighter safety as well as overall event performance.
ICNZ has developed training seminars for Judges and training and assessment procedures for Referees.
All ICNZ officials, as well as being subjected to training have the ability to develop through practical application of their skills on undercard fights.
Officials start off their careers at Level One, and can only officiate at B-Class level.
Upon completion of 5 bouts they are able to apply for further training and to officiate at Level Two over A-Class matches.
After ten amateur matches, officials are subjected to further assessment before progressing to Level Three, when they may officiate at Pro-Class bouts.
This should not only produce competent, capable and confident match officials but should develop a consistency in performance that fighters can rely upon.
