ICNZ MMA 2010

ICNZ MMA 2010

Wow, 2010 is coming to a close.

It has been a busy year for ICNZ MMA. Growing from strength to strength in 2010 we were able to bring you…

  • 4 full ICNZ MMA shows, including 1 in Palmerston North.
  • Officiation and rulings supplied for Shuriken, King Of The Doors and NZDF.
  • Over 80 fights!
  • Relocation to the new home of the Industry of Combat at The North Shore Events Centre.
  • Contender 2, featuring close to 100 grapplers fighting off in round-robin competition.
  • Referee’s Seminar.
  • Inducted the late Michael Gent to the ICNZ MMA Hall Of Fame.

2010 also allowed us to crown three new champions.

On ICNZ 11, Doug ‘Dynamite’ Higgins beat Adam ‘Soldier’ Calver by KO to win the Industry Of Combat NZ Featherweight Title.

On ICNZ 12, Kate Aroa beat Deney Hayward in arguably the fight of the year to win the Industry Of Combat NZ Female Middleweight Title. On the same night in a closely contested bout between Gareth ‘Irish’ Burke and Forrest Goodwin , Forrest took the judges decision to capture the Industry Of Combat Male Middleweight Title.

Also at ICNZ 12 we were able to watch ICNZ Welterweight champion take the win by rear naked choke over Australian Leigh Allwood in the grabaseat International Superfight.

There were also some very hotly contested amateur bouts at both A and B-Class really showcasing the rising skill level of NZ Mixed Martial Artists. A few standouts for me at the amateur ranks were..

Kingi Williams vs Nick Daly

Brayden Goldring vs Gareth Carter

Jay Johnson vs Bjorn Reirerson

Jason Solomon vs Lewis Rigney

Keep an eye on the ICNZ MMA facebook page as we will be running an online poll soon to see what your favourite Industry Of Combat matchup for 2010 was.

None of this would have been possible without your support, and the support of our sponsors…
